Canine Partners - A worthy charity to support

Every year, Just Training makes a Christmas donation to a UK based charity, instead of sending out Christmas cards and buying customer presents. We are very particular about the charities we support as well, so we make sure there are no CEOs on massive salaries, no staff driving around in Tesla cars, and no glossy marketing or cold calling activities. We want our donations to do what they are meant to do, and help those in need. Based on this premise, this year we have chosen Canine Partners to send our donation to.

Canine Partners provide assistance dogs to people with physical disabilities, so that they can enjoy greater independence and an increased quality of life. Over the past 28 years, Canine Partners have provided and trained more than 750 dogs to help disabled people.

There are more than 1.2 million people in the UK that use a wheelchair, and a significant number would benefit from having a canine partner. Canine Partners ensure that the right dog is matched to the applicants needs and lifestyle, and they are trained is tasks such as emptying the washing machine, picking up dropped items, pressing buttons, extracting payment cards from cash machines, and pressing switches in an emergency. They have 14 puppy training satellites across the UK where the pups are looked after by volunteers until they are old enough to begin advanced training, and then be placed with their new owner.

In early January 2017, Canine Partners had to sadly make a decision to priorities their long list of current applicants, and have been unable to accept more demands for trained dogs, due to lack of funding. They do not receive any kind of government funding, and rely totally on public donations.
