Driver CPC - Rules on Course Reptition
Thursday 28th March 2024
As most of you are now aware, the DVSA have put their foot down on drivers repeating Periodic CPC courses unnecessarily within a 5 year period. However, as usual there are plenty of urban myths going around about what this means, so we will explain.
A driver is allowed to repeat a module/course within the same 5 year period, if there can be a good reason for doing so. A good reason may be considered as perhaps :
- Completing a full first aid course every 3 years, if the driver needs to hold a valid and in date approved first aid course in order to their job.
- Fleet operators direct drivers to undertake certain modules to prevent infringements or support drivers who are continually committing infringements on loading/drivers hours etc.
-Required to hold other qualifications that expire less than a 5 year period, such as a Quarry Passport Course, and is close to expiry date and needs to renew.
Basically if you can prove there is a good reason for a driver to repeat a course, and its not just about convenience to the driver or the training provider, then this will be acceptable.
The DVSA have revoked hours from a number of drivers who have knowingly repeated courses.
